The Trick of Building up Your Ambition Often enough we found that our children are quite impatient with reading or working with assignments that take times. And often enough, such habit develops them into adults who lack ambitions and determinations.
A famous research called "Marshmallow Test" was done in 1960 on some 4-year-old children. They placed one marshmallow in front of each child and told him or her that they could eat the marshmallows whenever they felt like doing so. But, anyone who waited until the test conductor came back would get another one as a bonus. Then he left the room. Some went ahead and ate but some waited. The test followed up on the lives of these children. After ten years, the ones that waited seemed to have led more successful lives and were, in general, more good natured. They concluded that the ones who learned to wait for better results tend to be more ambitious and work to get what they wanted . The problem is how do we motivate them to be so.
That leads us back to the test. How did the children who waited handle their anxiety? Some closed their eyes to cut the connection to the marshmallow, some went to do something else to ignore the temptation and some kept telling themselves that the rewards were worth the waiting. The technique of self-programming to look forward for a better future seems to be the best one to lead them to a successful fulfillment of their ambitions.
