Types of Ankle Sprain

Before you can start treating an ankle sprain, it is critical that you identify the problem you are dealing with first. There are three main types of ankle sprain and we are going to discuss them in this article.

First, we have the inversion or lateral ankle sprain. You can quickly identify this type of ankle sprain because the majority of the swelling will be centralized around the outside ligament of your ankle. In this case, the injury causes your ankle to move outward while the foot faces inward.

Next, we have the eversion or medial ankle sprain; it is simply the complete opposite of a lateral ankle sprain. It may be a bit more difficult to identify this type of ankle sprain mainly because the amount of swelling is often limited. You can still recognize a medial ankle sprain from the moderate pain and swelling centered around the inside or back of your ankle.

Lastly, we have the high ankle sprain. This type if recognized as the most severe ankle injury you can have. Serious treatments are required including the practice of regular sprained ankle exercises and utilize other forms of treatments to heal a high ankle sprain completely.
